Overview of Economic Development in Cedar Park

Speaking today will be the newly hired  Director of Economic Development.  

Ben White joined the City of Cedar Park as Director of Economic Development in October 2018.  As Director of Economic Development, he is responsible for leading the City of Cedar Park’s Economic Development program based on the City Council vision and goals for creating job growth and attracting and retaining businesses in Cedar Park.

White has more than 18 years of experience in the field of economic development.  He currently serves as the President of the Williamson County Economic Development Partnership and on the Board of Directors of the Central Texas Foreign Trade Zone.  He was named by Consultant Connect among its Top 50 Economic Developers for 2017.  Prior to joining the City of Cedar Park, White served as Vice President of Economic Development for the Round Rock Chamber for nearly eight years.  There White and his team announced or completed more than 50 projects totaling more than $1B and 8,000 jobs in sectors including high tech, medical manufacturing, bioscience, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, high tech manufacturing, information technology, higher education, and distribution, as well as destination projects.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Kansas.

White sees Cedar Park as the next job center for the region because of its demographics and location – lending themselves well to corporate headquarters, the high tech industry and advance manufacturers.  White has a proactive approach and high level of enthusiasm when it comes to recruiting businesses to come to Cedar Park. 

White, a devout KU Basketball fan, lives in the area and enjoys watching every game with his wife and three children.

Randall Malik, Assistant Director of Economic Development

Randall Malik is the Assistant Director of Economic Development for the City of Cedar Park and is primarily focused on business retention and expansion, business attraction, and entrepreneurship. Malik has ten years of experience in economic development.  Prior to holding his current position, Malik served as the Economic Development Director for the City of Rosenberg (TX) and Executive Director of the Cuero Development Corporation.

Malik is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) by the International Economic Development Council. He is an active member of the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) and the International Economic Development Council. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Public Administration from Texas State University.
